The Universal Design Learning Laboratory in 78 LeBaron Hall was created to help Iowans understand the benefits of universal design. The lab features the "Home for All Ages" constructed by ISU Extension staff for the 1990 Farm Progress Show. The home is updated frequently to showcase recent advancements in universal design and also includes assistive technology for persons with disabilities.

The Laboratory provides experiential learning activities for Iowa State students. students

Drs. Crull, Yearns, and Cook in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies in the College of Human Sciences received a Miller Fellowship to develop the Universal Design Learning Laboratory. This was a collaborative effort between teaching and extension faculty to strengthen the undergraduate housing curriculum.


The Universal Design Learning Laboratory also promotes interdisciplinary collaboration with departments of Architecture, Art and Design, Gerontology, Industrial Education and Technology, and Residence and Student Services.
