As an undergraduate student in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies you are preparing to address the daily challenges and enrich the lives of families and individuals throughout their life time. Your coursework and experiences in and outside the classroom prepare you for rewarding careers in for-profit, not-for-profit, and the public sector.

As a graduate of HDFS you will have the knowledge and practice necessary to contribute to strengthening individuals and families in communities throughout Iowa and the nation with a degree in one of four majors:

Child, Adult, and Family Services

Early Childhood Education

Financial Counseling and Planning

Family and Consumer Sciences Education and Studies

Academic advisers are available to meet you and chart your course so that you get the most from your Iowa State Experience and complete the requirements for you to graduate with your bachelor’s degree.

Faculty are ready to work with you as well. As experts, faculty teach courses that integrate research and best practices to prepare you to enter careers human development and family studies.
