Minors

The Department of Human Development and Family Studies offers minors in:

  • Child, Adult, and Family Services
  • Educational Services in Family and Consumer Sciences
  • Financial Counseling and Planning

The department also participates in an interdepartmental Gerontology minor.

Adding a minor

The courses required for a minor can be found in the ISU catalog under the department offering the minor.

Minimum credits: Minors require a minimum of 15 credits, and some require more.

Steps to take: Visit with an adviser or faculty member who coordinates the minor you are seeking. The minor request form (PDF) must be completed and approved before the minor will be added to your program and appear on the Degree Audit Reporting System (DARS).

Financial Counseling and Planning

The Financial Counseling and Planning minor may be earned by completing 15 credits:

  • Complete all three of the following:
    • HD FS 283 Personal and Family Finance (3 credits)

Educational Services in Family and Consumer Sciences

The Education Services in Family and Consumer Sciences minor may be earned by completing 15 credits:

  • FCEDS 206 Professional Roles in Family and Consumer Sciences (2 credits)
  • FCEDS 306 Educational Principles for Family and Consumer Sciences (4 credits)
  • FCEDS 413 Planning and Assessment for Family and Consumer Sciences and Family Life Education (4 credits)
  • FCEDS 491A Communications or FCEDS 491B Professional Studies (5 credits)
