I was responsible for...
Intially I was one of three Youth and Family Interns. Their job description was: Requirements: • 30 hours total of online, webinar, and in-person ICADV certification training • 25+ hours per week required availability • 9-5p availability • Occasional evening and weekend activities Description: • Shadow and attend community meetings • Shadow and co-facilitate youth and teen groups • Shadow and provide DART/SART advocacy for victims meeting with police or seeking medical treatment because of domestic or sexual violence • Shadow and provide one on one peer advocacy to youth and non-offending parents • Attend trial providing advocacy and support to victims and family • Assist victims in filing Pro Se 236 Civil Protective orders • Light secretarial duties as assigned • Co-facilitate educational and awareness activities in schools and community After a few weeks I realized that I didn't want to do as much direct care work. So I switched my internship to more administrative duties and event planning.

I accomplished...
My greatest accomplishment was helping plan Reggie's Sleepout. Even though the event didn't get to happen this year due to safety concerns, I learned a lot through the planning process and even during the event cancelation.

I learned...
The greatest lesson I've learned is to see the positive even when everything is seeming to go wrong. I have spent most of my internship planning Reggie's Sleepout, so the morning of when I found out it was going to be canceled I was very disappointed. Another intern I have been working with helped me see the positive though and asked me what are three good things that came out of us working on the event all semester. We came up with these reasons 1. We still met the fundraising goal which was one of the main goals of the event. 2. I got experience doing something different than direct care for a non-profit organization 3. We got to build professional relationships between 3 organizations putting on Reggie's Sleepout and outside vendors.

Advice for others...
Make sure you advocate for yourself and get the most out of your internship experience. I was able to change my responsibilities after talking with my supervisor and I have been much more happy with the opportunities I have gotten.
