My overall experience with this program was more than amazing. I was able to learn about the culture through lectures, people, and experiences that I will take with me into my future life and career.
I learned about this opportunity at an informational meeting through Human Sciences.
An impact to my life...
As my future career goal is to be a teacher I truly want to take the mind sets of the Danish people and implement it into my classroom in different ways. I think my biggest take away is the importance of feelings and teaching feelings to my students. We talked to a Danish author who really pushed this which makes me excited to truly implement this into my classroom.
My most valuable learning experience...
The most valuable learning experience that I encountered was to not be so rushed all of the time and truly soak in what is happening around me. Love the people around you and ask people how they truly are doing rather than just a greeting.
I will never forget...
A small group of girls from our trip were able to spend an entire day with a local Danish man and he truly was able to show us what the Danish culture was all about. From eating at his favorite restaurant to playing soccer in his nephews backyard it was truly an experience I will never forget. He even will be in Iowa of all states for business so a group of us will be showing him around! Small world!
Advice for others...
Talk to the locals! They are the professionals and will love to answer any questions you have. If you do this you will truly learn so much. I was able to do this with multiple people and even on my way home from Denmark I was sitting by a woman who was Danish and we ended up chatting about our cultures and asking each other questions over the course of the plane ride and now we are even Facebook friends :). So cool! Make the most of every moment and journal as much as possible!!
